How do I become a member of SINZ?
If you wish to join SINZ and be part of our online database of simultaneous interpreters, you must comply with the following conditions.
You MUST be:

Currently physically living in New Zealand

Legally entitled to work in New Zealand
AND (you must meet all the conditions listed under one of the two pathways below)
1. Education & Training
Have specific simultaneous/conference interpreting training, whether that is a university course or a private course.
Have a minimum of 8 hours of work experience in simultaneous interpreting.
2. Professional Experience in Simultaneous Interpreting
Have a documented record of multiple simultaneous interpreting experiences.
Have a minimum of 50 hours of work (approximately equivalent to 2 or 3 conferences).
COMPULSORY ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
3. References and Endorsements
Two endorsements from existing members, booth partners or other professionals in the field.
4. Adherence to Professional Standards
Members agree to follow the NZSTI’s Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct, which includes maintaining confidentiality and impartiality.
5. Technical Proficiency
Basic understanding of interpreting equipment and ability to use interpretation technology, including remote simultaneous interpretation (RSI) platforms.
6. Ongoing Professional Development
All members must commit to ongoing training, professional education and development to maintain their skills.

And fill in the application form by clicking the "Send" button.

Send us proof that you meet the conditions above (a copy of your visa, an invoice as proof of your simultaneous experience, a copy of your degree, etc.).
Please note that only proof of simultaneous interpreting will be considered – interpreting experience in other fields (consecutive, community interpreting, phone interpreting, chuchotage, etc.) will not be taken into consideration.
Q&A
I do not meet all of the requirements, what do I do?
Applicants who do not meet the above criteria but believe they have a compelling case for inclusion may submit a detailed justification for consideration. SiNZ reserves the right to request further information or proof of relevant experience.
Applicants can also seek to further their qualifications and experience in order to fulfil the criteria above.
I am studying interpreting and/or simultaneous interpreting but have not worked in the field yet. Can I still join SiNZ?
At present, SiNZ is a platform for seasoned simultaneous interpreters. We seek to offer a list of experienced professionals who are ready to work. We are currently considering a student

By appearing on the SINZ website, you agree to the following: The role of SINZ Simultaneous Interpreters of New Zealand (SINZ) is a professional un-incorporated association that offers an online platform to professional Interpreters based in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Our mission is to create an online database for simultaneous and conference interpreters based in New Zealand. We are not an agency nor act as a conference organiser. Our aim is to provide visibility to professional simultaneous and conference interpreters, to develop communication among members, to establish standards and ethics, to provide members with professional development opportunities, and to advocate on behalf of the profession. Becoming a member By becoming a member of SINZ, you agree of complying to the membership conditions listed on the membership section of our website (please refer to the section “Become a member”). All member are responsible for the veracity of their claims and the authenticity of the professional proof and qualification documents that they may present as part of their application to become members. By becoming a member of SINZ, you consent to your personal contact information being displayed on our website. Contact details policy By registering to SINZ, you consent for your contact details (email, phone number, location (city) in New Zealand, and professional social medial profiles (your website or LinkdedIn profile) to be listed on the SINZ website under your profile. This is to enable any interested party to get in touch directly with you. If you do not want your contact details to appear in your profile, please get in touch with our team, and we will only keep publishing the information that you allow us to. Professional performance of members SINZ, its founder members, and anyone running the activities and memberships listed on the un-incorporated association’s website are not responsible in any way for the professional performance of the members who are listed on the website’s directory. SINZ does not run any identity pre-checks nor verify the veracity of the claims of its members, nor the authenticity of any documentation provided to become a member. SINZ hopes that all listed members make truthful statements to comply with membership conditions and provide true copies of any previous work experience or decrees. Third party contact We do not disclose your email address and other personal contact directly to third parties. However, SINZ does not hold any responsibility over the parties who may chose to contact you through the contact details provided on your website profile. Email policy SINZ will use the email address that you provided to contact you and send relevant information, such as newsletters or professional development opportunities. Every email message sent by SINZ includes an email address to which you can respond. If at any time you decide you do not want to receive emails from SINZ, please let us know and we will remove your email address from our mailing list. Membership fees We are currently offering a free service for members to showcase their expertise on the website’s online directory. Should we decide to change our policy in the future, we will be sure to notify all members in advance. Every member will have the right to agree on any future membership fee or decide to opt out of our directory without any incurring cost. Equipment providers SINZ is also offering the possibility for equipment providers (audio-visuals, booth, and conference-related equipment companies) to be listed on the website and showcase their services. However, SINZ does not hold any responsibility for the prices or performance of listed companies. Code of conduct The founders of SINZ and any other party running the activities and day-to-day operations of the un-incorporated association’s website work as volunteers. We invite you to be courteous and respectful when you engage with any SINZ representatives and other members. Verbal abuse and rude behaviour will not be tolerated. In extreme cases of impolite and unprofessional conduct, SINZ reserves the right to remove any party from the SINZ directory and database. Opt-out policy All members and parties listed on the website are free to opt-out at any time and have their profile and all personal information removed from the website without any incurring cost.
